Dr. Anderson,
Heard your show on the radio; “Your Book Idea.” I’m excited, but OVERWHELMED!!! UGH…..

With your help, I’m going to write a non-fiction book, but there’s so much information I want to include that I think it’s going to turn into a “how to Bible” and that’s a pretty big undertaking!

I live in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island; no access to big bookstores here to do my ‘look at books on shelves that would be next to yours’ research. How about the library and their online catalog. You didn’t mention that as a research option. Wanted your opinion on that. Of course I can go off island to a bookstore, but I rarely do….my time is very limited, and I wanted to get started ASAP!

Your show is SUPER GREAT and the steps you laid out to start a book are very precise and manageable.

Good thing your show is on a podcast because I missed most of it and was able to listen later and take detailed notes.

Glad you’re out there!!

Wow, Mary Jo, thanks for your kind words! I’m glad you were listening to the show – the entire podcast is up now so you can listen to whatever you missed.

Yes, you can certainly use the library and online bookstores like Amazon.com to investigate the books that would be next to yours on the shelf. Libraries are constrained by their budgets and so might not have all the titles a bookstore would have and might have many books that are older and not really shelf-mates for your book. But the library does give you an idea of what’s out there… Online bookstores give you up-to-date titles. When you can “search inside” you get an idea of how a book looks and how the author organized it. Not quite as complete an experience as standing in front of a bookshelf, but pretty close!

I hope you get started on your book this week! You’ve got me curious… I wonder what it’s about!

Thanks again…

Patricia
